| Drug Indication | Prevention of vascular spasm following subarachnoid haemorrhage. |
| Precautions | Avoid concomitant use of other calcium channel blockers; beta-blockers; tablets and infusion of nimodipine; grape juice. Cerebral oedema or severely raised intracranial pressure; nephrotoxic drugs; impaired renal failure; pregnancy. |
| Side Effects | Hypotension; headache; GI disturbances; thrombocytopenia; feeling of warmth; temporary increase of liver enzymes after IV infusion. |
| Dosage | Prevention, orally; 60mg every 4hours (total daily dose 360mg). This should start within 4 days of subarachnoid haemorrhage and continue for 21 days. Treatment: IV infusion via central catheter. Initially: 1mg/hour, after 2hours; 2mg/hour as long as there is no severe drop in blood pressure. |
